About Us

The Learning Center for Rapides Parish offers area residents an opportunity to earn college credit or complete one of a variety of academic programs - right here in central Louisiana. The Learning Center brings more than 10 colleges and universities to central Louisiana, with more educational opportunities than many other areas of the state. Just off I-49 on England Airpark, the Learning Center is a short drive from anywhere in Alexandria/Pineville, and it is on the City of Alexandria's bus transit route.

The Learning Center for Rapides Parish is comprised of postsecondary institutions from throughout Louisiana and beyond. We offer residents of central Louisiana quality educational opportunities in a state-of-the-art non-traditional instructional environment.

As the only institution of its kind in the state, the Learning Center provides students throughout central Louisiana with:

  • More post-secondary opportunities than many other major metropolitan areas of the state
  • A broad scope of opportunities to meet the students' specific educational needs
  • Nearly half of courses taught via compressed video
  • Wireless campus with student laptop check-out procedures
  • A library with computers linked to the Internet
  • Classes that meet the working student's schedule.

The selection of academic programs offered includes developmental courses, certificate programs, associate degrees, baccalaureate degrees, and graduate degrees, as well as continuing education options.

Our state-of-the-art facilities are also available for video conferencing, corporate functions, board meetings, seminars and workforce training.

As part of the Learning Center's commitment to meet the education needs of the region's workforce and to promote a climate of cooperation between postsecondary institutions, government, and business, Learning Center staff are members of various community organizations.


To serve as a host facility coordinating efforts of existing postsecondary institutions to provide education and workforce training opportunities responsive to the needs of students, employers, and the Central Louisiana region.


Responsibilities of the Center include but are not limited to: conducting needs assessments, strategic planning, selecting or brokering courses and programs, coordinating and marketing services, and assuring the quality of delivery.


The Center shall strive to meet the following goals:

  • To provide enhanced access to postsecondary education in Central Louisiana.
  • To meet the needs of the region’s workforce with quality education and training programs.
  • To promote a climate of cooperation between postsecondary institutions, government, and business.
  • To position Central Louisiana as a technologically advanced area, helping to create a skilled and trained workforce, and facilitating the economic development of the Region.
  • To facilitate the integration of educational goals and career development of the citizens of Central Louisiana.
